Outstanding Architecture

Crumbly cement, old creaking wood, rock shingles, little back yards, fenced in front doors and rock pathways. These are just some of many words that I would use to describe what a typical small town home would be. I have never lived in a town home like I have well being here in Scotland. What a great experience it has been to be able to compare and contrast how different the culture and buildings and language is here compared to the U.S. In the U.S.  Houses look more modern, but here in Scotland houses look very unique and have a strong look and feel of vintage to them. That's just something that I have really enjoyed seeing and living in everyday. It's nice to have a chance to explore new cultures and compare to your culture what's different between the two.

Dates

In the United States,  We write the date by the month, day, year but here in Scotland they wright the dates by the day, month, year. This was something that I found very interesting because it was something that I had never seen before or heard of.

Exit Here Please

In the U.S. Our exit signs are green, just with the word "exit" on it. Here in Scotland, Inverness. Their Exit sign is in the image above. Both mean the same thing, have the same color to it. Just they use pictures describing the exit which is different then having the word Exit on it. This was just one of the first things I noticed that are different in this culture than in mine.

"WOW Scotland"

I found extreme excitement when I went on the "WOW Scotland" tour, and the chance I had to tour parts  Scotland. One of my favorite stops that we had taken on the tour was this Castle. In the United States there arent castles. There are  business buildings but most every building is a modern or early vintage/house warming look. So seeing a very old vintage castle was a very exciting experience.

Food, Food, Glorious Food!

Well living in Scotland  for a month I get the opportunity to eat and try their food from the restaurant's in town.  Their food is mostly the same as most dishes in the US, the only thing I would say is different is the flavor, and what they call the food here. There are some dishes that Scotland has that are different then what we have in the U.S.A. Something that they have that we have are Fries, but the difference with Fries in Utah and the fries they have here in Scotland is the name. Here in Scotland they are called "Chips" vs. being called Fries. Scotland also has Dutch Waffles which is a treat that I haven't found in the US either! Dutch Waffles are smashed waffles with honey in the middle and they are very good.

BEEP! BEEP!

I am spending this month in Scotland and it's been a great experience and opportunity to get to taste, see, and smell what is different here and what is the same in comparison to the U.S.A. One of the very first things I noticed was different was the way the Scottish people drive. In America, we drive  on the right side of the road. In Scotland, they drive on the left side of the road. The Scottish also have their steering wheel on the right side of the car making it so you can turn left at a red, and Americans have their steering wheel on the left side of the car making it so you can turn right at a red. So when I arrived here in Scotland and a kind lady picked me up and started to drive me to where I was staying I was just struct with so much excitement just in how she was driving, and I was also struct with a little bit of fear thinking we where going to get hit by another car.
